Marapendi Municipal Natural Park

With approximately 155 hectares of beautiful natural landscapes, Marapendi Park protects the native restinga and mangrove ecosystems. The place was created in 1978 with the objective of becoming an outdoor recreation and leisure space, as well as an environment of environmental preservation. Among the species found in the region are centennial trees, such as jacarandas and Paraná pines, and animals, such as the black-billed toucan and the sloth. There is also the Reference Center for Environmental Education in Marapendi, created for the exchange of knowledge through socio-environmental activities. The center has a science room with information about the region's fauna and flora, and maintains an extensive cultural program with exhibitions, handcraft workshops, and film screenings. The park extends along the coastal strip of Barra da Tijuca, between Avenida Sernambetiba and Avenida das Américas, from the alignment of Avenida General Felicíssimo Cardoso to Avenida Pedro Moura.
