Mocke Ruins (Ruinas do Mocke)

Tijuca’s National Park is divided into three visiting sections - Forest, Serra da Carioca e Pedra Bonita/Pedra da Gávea - and offers activities options for everyone, from picnic and barbecue area to hang gliding, climbing, trail, and others. Between the most famous postal cards of the country, it has the Corcovado, where’s placed the Cristo Redentor (one of the new seven wonders of the world), Pedra da Gávea, Vista Chinesa (Chinese Viewpoint), Lage Park, Paineiras, and Dona Marta Viewpoint. The Horto Waterfalls and Transcarioca Trail, all presented in our catalog, are also relevant attractive points of this location.
Owned by the Dutchman Alexander van Moke, the Nassau Farm produced various foods, not only coffee but asparagus, cauliflower, cabbage, cassava, banana, and beans, as well, so the slaves could consume. The farm was considered the biggest in the coffee business, with extended plantations and sixteen edifications, composing the most complete agricultural establishment at the Rio de Janeiro City. After Moke’s death, in 1828, the farm continued under his wife supervision and, for many years, it kept being a reference to the city. It was so important that was mentioned in one of the José de Alencar romances, “Sonhos d’Ouro” (Golden dreams).
