With an area of 16 thousand square meters, the old Bhering chocolate factory is currently a complex of ateliers for photographers, plastic artists, and craftsmen. Placed in Santo Cristo district (docklands area), the factory was built in 1934, and it still has the old machinery and installations. Today it inspires the artists that rent studios there, where they can produce and exhibit their art pieces.
Its six larges floors were divided into many rooms with 10, 15, 18, and - even more than - 100 square meters. They're now studios dedicated to sculpture, painting, literature, photography, videos, performances, installation, restoration, drawings, works in multimedia, among other modalities. The old clock at the top of the building is original from the beginning of the 20th century. The elevators have pantographic doors, and the whole place retains a certain drama of a powerful mill. From the rooftop, the Bhering Factory offers a view to the port area, a landscape that's in constant transformation, and to Baía de Guanabara (Guanabara Bay), even prettier from this perspective.
