Cachoeira dos Primatas (Primate Waterfall)
The Tijuca National Park is divided into three visitation sectors - Forest, Serra da Carioca and Pedra Bonita/Pedra da Gávea - and has program options for everyone: from picnic and barbecue areas to hang gliding, climbing, hiking and other activities. Among the country's famous postcards, we have Corcovado Mountain, where the statue of Christ the Redeemer is located, one of the seven wonders of the modern world, Vista Chinesa, Pedra da Gávea, Parque Lage and Paineiras. Besides the famous monument, visitors can observe from several points in the Serra da Carioca Sector the impressive view of Rio, such as Vista Chinesa and Mirante Dona Marta (viewpoint). The Horto Waterfalls, the Paineiras, the pleasant Parque Lage, and the Transcarioca Trail are also important attractions. Ideal for visitors looking for a good waterfall without having to face difficult trails, the Primates' Waterfall is a great tip. The tour includes the Primatas Cave, a pool for bathing, and the main waterfall, from where it is possible to see the famous Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, in the southern part of the city. The river that forms the Primatas' Waterfall is part of the hydrographic basin of this lagoon, and is one of those responsible for its formation and existence. It is one of the tributaries of Rio dos Macacos, which has now been diverted to Canal do Jockey and flows into the sea.
