Centro Cultural Parque Glória Maria (Parque das Ruínas)
The Municipal Cultural Center Glória Maria (formerly known as Parque das Ruínas) is a public park and cultural center located in the neighborhood of Santa Teresa, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is situated on the ruins of the building that once belonged to the great patroness of Carioca Belle Époque, socialite Laurinda Santos Lobo. She used to gather intellectuals and artists in the mansion, which is now an award-winning project by architects Ernani Freire and Sonia Lopes. They preserved the structure of the ruins while adding contemporary elements during the renovation work. The ruins of the old mansion underwent a meticulous restoration and waterproofing process.
The site offers a panoramic view of Guanabara Bay on one side and the City Center on the other. In addition to the Mirante (lookout) and the Ruins, the Park is equipped with an outdoor area for concerts, exhibition galleries, a multipurpose space, and features the Ruth de Souza Theater.
