Chacrinha State Park

Chacrinha State Park, in Copacabana, extends along Ladeira do Leme, from Praça Cardeal Arcoverde to the old portico of the Leme redoubt, a fortress that controlled access from Copacabana to Botafogo. The name of the conservation unit comes from the popular name "Chacrinha", from "small farm".
It aims to preserve natural ecosystems of great ecological relevance and scenic beauty, enable scientific research and provide the development of environmental education and interpretation, recreation and contact with nature and ecological tourism. The military ordinances of 1708 established this area as a defensive fortress and there are still traces of military occupation. An area of special interest for children and elderly visitors, given the easy access and the places with toys and benches for resting and contemplation. One can observe the ruins from the beginning of the 20th century, the mule paths used to transport food and water in Colonial Brazil, the ruin of the oldest house in Copacabana, and in its immediate surroundings, the 18th century aqueduct in the military village of Babilônia, where Tiradentes served.
