Planetário do Rio

Inaugurated on November 19, 1970, the Planetarium Foundation is dedicated to spreading astronomy and related sciences and offering quality culture and leisure to the Rio de Janeiro population and other visitors, becoming synonymous with entertainment, not only for the Summit Sessions, but also for promoting a series of cultural activities and projects that allow the integration between the most diverse areas of science.

The Rio Planetarium, located in the Gávea neighborhood, is the largest equipment of its kind in Latin America. Visitors can visit the Museum of the Universe, which houses several interactive experiments and exhibitions; the Giordano Bruno Library, with a collection of approximately 2.5 thousand books (reopening scheduled for November/22); the Écio Salles Library, with a collection of 1 thousand books about Rio de Janeiro; the amphitheater; the Sergio Menge auditorium; the Galileu Space, for children's recreation; the Telescope Square, where telescope observations take place; and the Carl Sagan and Galileu Galilei Domes, renovated in 2011.
