The Praça XV is located in historic downtown. It was first named Dom Pedro II Square, and then it got the current name after the Proclamation of the Republic. Till the first half of the XX century, the square was Rio's gateway, because the Port was located there.
Nearby one can find the Paço Imperial, Chafariz do Mestre Valentim, the ferry station, and other constructions and monuments like the famous Arco do Teles, where old and preserved huts recall the XVIII century. Every Saturday, since 1970, the square holds a fair, the famous "Feira de Antiguidades da Praça XV".
