Sala Cecília Meireles / Espaço Guiomar Novaes
The Cecília Meireles Room is one of the most traditional concert halls in Brazil. In the heart of Lapa, downtown, the hall has become, since 1965, an important space for training and dissemination of concert music in Rio de Janeiro. This space belongs to the Anita Mantuano Foundation for the Arts of the State of Rio de Janeiro/FUNARJ.
After the renovation, the hall has an interaction with the outside environment, through large glass windows and large doors that are open all day long, giving access to the two ticket offices and the coffee shop on the second floor. The acoustical project, which prioritized materials that contribute to musical listening, was the major axis of the interior modernization reform. In this context, wood takes pride of place. The space has gained accessibility in its three floors, through ramps and elevators. Both the concert hall (lower and upper auditoriums) and the social areas are now accessible. That are restrooms on all floors, always with the option of being accessible. Another novelty of the reform is the second floor bomboniére and the Café da Sala (Room Coffee Shop), which will operate on the second floor attracting a new audience and still allowing a longer stay of its visitors for a snack before or after concerts and programming.
