Sugarloaf Mountain and Urca Hill Natural Monument

Visitors arriving in the city of Rio de Janeiro are welcomed by a natural monument made up of the Sugarloaf and Urca hills that, with their five hundred million years of geological history, guard the entrance to Guanabara Bay.
Besides the extraordinary beauty of this geological site, the area is surrounded by the Atlantic Forest, with its grandiose biodiversity, offering visitors the dazzling sight of its flora and fauna, considered one of the richest on the planet.
For future generations to continue enjoying these beauties, the area was made official by the Rio de Janeiro City Hall, in 2006, as a Conservation Unit called Natural Monument (MoNa) of the Sugar Loaf and Urca hills.
