Vermelha Beach

Praia Vermelha (Red Beach) is located between the Babilônia, Urca, and Pão de Açúcar hills, in the Urca neighborhood, in the southern part of the city. The stretch of sand is 200 meters long and offers a privileged view of Guanabara Bay. General Tibúrcio Square is next to the beach, and there is the IME (Military Engineering Institute) and the Sugarloaf cable car station. Access is via Avenida Pasteur, where there are campuses of two of Rio de Janeiro's largest public universities: UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) and Unirio (Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro).
