Rio Film Commission is now a member of AFCI – Association of Film Commissioners International, the largest representative entity of its kind in the world. The formalization of the signing of the affiliation with AFCI took place earlier this month. Becoming a member of AFCI is quite strategic, as it puts the Rio Film Commission on the map of film commissions worldwide, and brings a number of benefits:
– AFCI is the only film commissions association in the world, which represents entities from all parts of the planet. It is also a reference in this area and has more than 300 members in this date, of different entities, from national, state, regional and municipal representations. Cities such as Atlanta (USA), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Barcelona (Spain), Busan (South Korea), among many others from the five continents, besides our neighbors São Paulo, Buenos Aires, and Bogotá.
– Becoming an AFCI member is interesting, not only for its visibility, credibility, institutionalization and internationalization, but also because they are always attentive to international legislations and the sector’s news, promoting the updating of the associates through online courses and webinars, and a weekly newsletter with a wide global circulation related to the audiovisual industry.
– Another important advantage is that AFCI participates in the main audiovisual market events worldwide, such as festivals, congresses, and location and tourism fairs. And it takes material from its members, as well as providing discounts for its members to participate in these markets. In addition, the association seeks through the organization of two annual events, the AFCI Week and the Cineposium, not only to stimulate the networking of its members with production companies, studios and players from all over the world who are looking for attractive destinations for their productions, but also the exchange of experiences among other associated film commissions.
– This is also a way to promote internationally the CASH REBATE Incentive recently launched by RioFilme. The coming of productions from other countries to Rio moves the local economy, generates jobs, through co-productions and production services with Rio production companies.
According to Daniel Celli, Coordinator of the Rio Film Commission: “The existence of film commissions means that locations that have them, such as Rio de Janeiro, become part of a map of destinations for audiovisual productions, by seeking to guarantee a more attractive environment for filming, more film friendly. Not that Rio de Janeiro wasn’t already, but this public policy strengthens the city as a destination. It is a set of actions and tasks directed to the audiovisual market, which can be: a more accessible service, the facilitation of a location, available production infrastructure, qualified professionals, an institution ready to act so that a production can take place, an economic mechanism to attract productions such as cash rebates, and many other possibilities. In addition, it is necessary to publicize these attractions, this “film friendly” aspect, and being part of an international association like AFCI is very strategic for this. The affiliation of Rio Film Commission to AFCI is to put the city of Rio de Janeiro even more on the world map of friendly destinations, receptive to audiovisual productions. A small action, but very strategic”, he says.
With this action, we are taking another step to make Rio an even more competitive city on the national and international levels.
